E3 is this coming week, and I’m cautiously optimistic about it. I wish I could say “I’m super excited and pumped zOMGz I can’t WAIT!” but I’m just not there this year. What with Sony not even showing up this year, and the cringy virtue signaling and blatant pandering of last year’s show, I’m just not sure how things are gonna go. Only time will tell.
No more of THIS… please…
But that isn’t what I’m here to write about today. No no no. All this thinking about the upcoming E3 has me thinking about E3’s of old. Specifically one particular show….
Now most people have a “great” moment that sticks out, like that time you literally saw the EXACT moment a great show died, in real time, with the announcement of the Wonderbook during Sony’s 2012 show. Or that time when Kinect avatars suddenly became contortionists live on stage, just in case you were curious what the bottom of an avatar’s foot looked like, they had you covered. Or how about that “Kinectimals” travesty with the best kid actors this side of Jake “I’ll-Try-Spinning-That’s-A-Good-Trick” Lloyd…
There are lots of great moments that stick out for all the wrong reasons, and if you wanna have a good time, there’s plenty of cringe supercut compilations on YouTube you can check out that cover most of the bases.

Again though, that’s not why I’m here either. There’s one “moment” for me that sticks out far more than the others. It’s something that I always seem to come back to, time, and time again. It’s something of a tradition of mine to watch this a few times a year. Maybe I’m just feeling under the weather, or I’m having a cruddy day, or sometimes I just watch it because I straight up want to! I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen it and how much joy it’s given me over the years!
But what am I talking about? Why, the entire Konami 2010 conference, of course! I could write about everything I love in this, everything that went so beautifully wrong, and all the reasons it’s probably the single greatest thing ever committed to film, I could do it for literal ages! I’m not gonna do that though. It’s a real site to behold, and it deserves to be witnessed, and I really don’t wanna spoil it too much. Even if you’ve seen it already, it’s always worth watching again. It’s comedy gold! Just remember one thing as you watch: THIS WAS ALL LIVE WITH THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WATCHING!

But I’m not gonna subject you to the whole thing here. If you are curious enough, I suggest you seek it out on your own. In the meantime however, here is a fantastic highlight reel made by Supercut-extraordinaire, Crowbcat. It’s a great watch. He somehow makes the awkwardness just OOZE out of the screen, it’s magical. Oh, and a BIG shout out to my man, Japanese-Steven Tyler! He’s, without a doubt, my absolute favorite part of this beautiful mess! He’s a true master… of DANCE!… You’ll understand after you watch it, I swear!
