Space Jam. Some love it. Some hate it. Some love to hate it, some hate to love it. That might sound obtuse and confusing, but then again, so is the very concept of Space Jam on its own.
Let’s do Roger Rabbit, but with the Looney Toons and Michael Jordan, who will play a basketball game against Danny DeVito and a team of Monstars for the fate of all man (and toon) kind! A tale as old as time, am I right?
Regardless of how you feel about it, you can’t deny that the movie was a success. It made a bunch of money on release and even now, over 20 years later, we still talk about it, even if it’s mostly thanks to memes. The theme song too, is nearly impossible to forget . You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t know Space Jam in one form or another…
… Unless that form happens to be videogames. At the time, I’m sure a videogame must have seemed like a no-brainer. Just make NBA Jam with Space Jam characters. I mean, the name alone is already half way there, HOW can it go wrong? Well, they did it wrong by not even doing it. That was pretty easy.
This game was so forgettable that, aside from Panda, we had never even heard about it until he came up to John and I saying “This has to be our next License to Suck!” After playing it, we knew why no one talks about it. Trust me, it’s for the best.
If you are even SLIGHTLY curious to know why, don’t seek it out, just watch our video. Not because we need more views (which we do… ) but because we don’t wish for you to suffer. At least not any more than you would by watching us fart around for 20 minutes playing some kind of weird hybrid between Space Jam and Mario Party.
It could be worse. You could be playing it.
